Laser Hair Removal Do’s & Don'ts: A Beginner’s Before-Appointment Guide

5 Laser Hair Removal Tips for Begginers

Laser hair removal has grown in popularity, praised for its convenience and flawless results. If you want to ditch the razor or waxing strips, laser hair removal is an excellent solution.

However, the process can be daunting, especially for beginners. So, we’ve created a list of tips to alleviate your worries and ensure you’re prepared for your appointment.

1. Limit Sun Exposure

A week leading to your appointment and up to two days after, limit your time in the sun. A tan can increase the chances of the laser targeting the melanin in your skin rather than your hair, resulting in painful laser burns and ineffective results. If you are spending any time outside, wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30.

2. Avoid Waxing & Plucking

The laser device destroys the hair follicle to halt the growth cycle, so you’ll want to refrain from plucking and waxing six weeks before your appointment. Doing so will uproot the hair follicle, rendering the laser removal process futile.

3. The Targeted Areas

Unlike waxing and plucking, shaving doesn’t remove the hair, making it a necessary preparation step. Shaving the treatment area at least two nights before will give the laser a more precise target of the hair follicle.

4. Properly Clean Your Skin

Right before heading to the salon, make sure the area is completely clean. Try your best to remove lotions, makeup, and dirt for the best results.

5. Do Your Research

Arguably the most important tip is to research and determine the best laser hair removal facility for you.
