Getting laser hair removal is not just about booking an appointment and walking out hair-free, it’s much more, and at PeachFuzz Laser Skincare, we understand this.
Going through the hair removal process is a journey and how you care for your skin after each laser session plays a huge role in how radiant, smooth, and irritation-free your result could be. This is why we take aftercare seriously, we’re not just about results – we’re about healthy skin, too. Here’s how to care for yours.
Expect this: A little redness and sensitivity are normal.
First, you need to know that it’s okay for your skin to look a little red or feel tender after a session, so don’t be alarmed. This is normal and usually fades within a few hours to a few days. One way to see this is your skin saying, “Hey I’ve just had a serious glow-up!” When you show up at our Brooklyn laser studio or any of our studios, we’ll prepare you for things to expect and how you can handle them.
Another thing you would notice is a slight warm and tingling sensation during your laser - that’s the laser targeting your hair follicles to do its job. The closest comparison to how this would feel would be a mild sunburn.
Cooling Down the Right Way
After your session, when everything seems to be high up, how do you soothe your skin, cool it down, and keep it happy? This is where Aloe vera gel and fragrance-free moisturizers become your MVPs. Start by applying aloe vera gel to give your skin some cooling comfort. It’s gentle, healing, and a tried and trusted favorite in the list of Peachfuzz laser skincare recommendations. Double-check that it’s 100% pure and has no added fragrance to avoid extra drama on your already irritated skin.
Keep your skin moisturized with fragrance-free moisturizers. Avoid using anything with strong scents or alcohol as they can sting or cause further irritation. Stick with clean, nourishing ingredients that hydrate and calm your skin. If your skin feels warm or flushed, use a non-ice cool compress for a few minutes at a time.
Skip the Gym: Avoid excessive sweating for 24 hours post-treatment
As much as we all love good workouts, working out within the first 24 hours after your laser session is not advisable. The same goes for saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, or anything that will make you sweat excessively. Sweat can introduce bacteria to your freshly treated skin, leading to breakouts or irritations. Wear breathable skin-covering clothing to avoid sweat.
SPF Is Your New BFF
It’s best to avoid sun exposure since your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays at this time. If you must go out, you’ll need SPF 30 or higher sunscreen for maximum protection. This will shield your skin from irritation and prevent hyperpigmentation and premature aging from happening due to sun exposure. If you’re not sure what works best, our Brooklyn Laser Studio advice team is happy to recommend some favorites that play well with sensitive or acne-prone skin.
Long-Term Care: Keep the Glow Going
Beyond the immediate care after your session, here are a few things you should always do to maintain smooth and bump-free skin
- Gentle exfoliation 2 to 3 times a week (remember don’t try this after a session!)
- Stay moisturized daily with lightweight, non-comedogenic formulas
- Drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated and happy.
Remember, consistency is the key. Most clients start to see the best results after 6 to 8 sessions with 4-6 weeks intervals.
