So, here’s everything you need to know: what to expect during your laser hair removal session and what to do to ensure your laser hair removal prep is useful and effective.

Pre-treatment Checklist

This pre-treatment checklist has been put together to help you get the most out of your laser treatment. Follow these small steps below, and you’ll make a big difference in your preparation.

Shave within 24 hours before your appointment: Gently shave the area to be treated the night before your appointment. This helps to ensure that the hair doesn’t block the laser from getting to the root or hair follicles. Also, shaving the night before your appointment helps to avoid skin irritation from the same-day shaving.

No Waxing or Tweezing: Waxing or tweezing uproots hair from the root. Since laser targets the hair follicles in the root, it is important to avoid waxing, tweezing, or threading at least 3-4 weeks before your first laser appointment.

Discontinue usage of Certain care products: Certain care products with ingredients like retinols, exfoliants, and active acids (like glycolic and salicylic acid) can make your skin more sensitive to laser. So, avoid them at least 3 – 6 days before your appointment.

Try our Like Silk Shave Oil: This product is a botanical shave oil curated to soothe and hydrate your skin, leaving you with a bump-free finish. Although this is not mandatory, using the Like Silk shave oil after shaving during your laser hair removal prep is one way to protect your skin from complications, e.g., inflammation.

What to Wear and Bring

We recommend wearing loose and breathable clothing to your appointment. This is even more important when you’re treating sensitive areas like underarms or bikini lines. This is to avoid having your clothing trap heat that can irritate the area treated. If you’re treating an open area like facial hair, ensure that you do not wear makeup.

Come with water, some positive vibes, and any questions you might have for us. We’re here for you to make sure that your laser journey is exciting and rewarding.

What to expect during your visit

Consultation: During your first visit to our studio, you’ll have a quick consultation with us to review your goals and skin type. This will help us create a customized treatment plan, and appropriate laser settings can be followed for your treatment.

Prep and Treat: After the consultation, you’ll proceed to have the area for the treatment cleaned. Once the area is ready, a cooling gel will be applied to keep you comfortable.

Once we commence treatment, you’ll feel quick zaps similar to tiny rubber band snaps, but nothing unbearable. Our technicians will guide you through every step while making adjustments to ensure you’re comfortable. A typical laser hair removal session takes less than an hour, depending on the area being treated. After all that, you’ll have the area cleaned and a soothing lotion applied to keep you comfortable before heading out.

Post-Laser Care instructions: Your visit or session with us ends after we hand you over a customized after-care plan to help you soothe your treated skin and stay smooth pending your next session.

Post-Treatment Tips for Melanated Skin

If you have rich, melanated, beautiful skin, the first thing you must know is that your skin reacts differently to light and heat. Hence, the reason we’re extremely cautious and specially trained to handle melanated skin. To properly take care of your melanated skin after treatment:

  • Apply cool compresses or Aloe-relief gel to calm any warmth or redness
  • Ensure that you only use moisturizers free from any fragrance to protect your skin barrier.
  • Avoid sun exposure after your treatment for at least 48 hours, even in winter. If you must go out, use at least a sunscreen SPF 30+ to avoid hyperpigmentation.
  • For the next 24 hours, avoid any activity that will make you sweat. E.g., Gym, sauna, hot showers.
